Test by Theodore Thomas

The Crash

Robert Proctor, a young man, is driving with his mother on a nice May morning. They're on the highway, and he switches lanes to pass a convertible behind a big truck. Unfortunately, the convertible suddenly moves into his lane and crashes into the front of his car. Robert stays as calm as he can. He tries his best to avoid a crash. Suddenly, the tire bursts, and his mother starts screaming. The car starts spinning across the highway. Robert ends up facing a scared man and a sleeping girl as their cars collide in a head-on crash.

The Test

Robert wakes up feeling a bit dazed, like he just had a long nap. A man in a uniform tells him not to worry, explaining that the car crash wasn't real. It turns out Robert was hypnotized during his driving test, and the fake accident was meant to make him drive more cautiously. The man assures Robert that if he still wants a driver's license, all he has to do is sign the application.

The Result

After signing the form, two men in white coats stand beside Robert. The man in uniform breaks the news that Robert didn't pass the driver's license test. He explains that the fake accident was supposed to make Robert scared to drive for years. People in Robert's situation aren't allowed to get driver's licenses. The man in uniform adds that Robert will be sent for treatment.

As the two men in white coats start to escort him out of the room, Robert is shocked and wonders if this is still a part of test. The doctor says no, but assures Robert that he can try again later.
